| Which Bull Run is this? I'm assuming second. In terms of alternate names, I agree with Hamburger; the northern name for Shiloh was Pittsburgh's Landing, the southern name for Stone's River was Murfreesboro and for Antietam was Sharpsburg. Also, Fort Donelson had 17,398 deaths? It was bloodier than Cold Harbor or Chattanooga or Fredericksburg or the Seven Days? I'm dubious - I thought that Grant's victory was pretty bloodless. If you're including prisoners as casualties, then, firstly, the number of casualties doesn't do a good job indicating if a battle was bloody, and secondly, I can't imagine Donelson had more prisoners captured than, say, Vicksburg. |
