	@Cat_Girl: I haven't seen Heaven's Gate, so I can't vouch for it either way, but I have heard about what happened to the film. Its theatrical release cut 2 hours of material from what the director had intended (in fairness to the studio, a 5-hour movie would have been a tough sell, and the "Kill Bill" technique of splitting it has never been common practice.) Cutting that much left it an incoherent mess; I have heard and read from those who have seen the full movie that it is actually very good.

	Completely awful list. As mentioned above, "Heaven's Gate" does not deserve to be on this list (and yes, I have seen it; it's oppressively slow and boring), and neither does "The Misfits", "Duel in the Sun", and honestly, "Shane". Meanwhile, there are unforgivable omissions like "A Fistful of Dollars", "For a few Dollars More", "Tombstone", "Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia", "Bad Day at Eagle Rock", "True Grit", "Blazing Saddles", "High Plains Drifter", "3:10 to Yuma", and many others. I don't consider myself an expert on Westerns, but this was pretty bad.

	it's taken from a list that takes into account the opinions of hundreds of critics, directors, writers, etc. to make the most accurate representation of the 1,000 "greatest" films of all time, and these are just the westerns taken from the list. so the original list isn't specifically geared towards westerns. and alfredo garcia was on the original list (it would come right shane) but i didn't included since it generally isn't considered a western.

	@kevintiger I'm well aware of what the source is, but I'm pointing out that much like the rest of the TSPDT, it completely sucks. And by the way, there are very few "writers, directors" taken into account; it's mostly critics (ie worthless shills), and older ones at that, who would choose sappy, forgettable, overhyped Western romances like "Duel in the Sun" or "The Misfits" over the films myself and others have mentioned above.

	No "3.10 to Yuma" (original, natch)? No "Winchester 73"? No "Fistful of Dollars" or "A Few Dollars More"? No "The Gunfighter"? No "The True Story of Jesse James"? No "Gunfight at the OK Corral"? No "Vera Cruz"? No "The Long Riders"? No "The Tall T" or "7 Men From Now"? No "Monte Walsh"? No "The Big Country"? No "Tombstone"? The top 20 are mostly OK, but after that the list goes all to pieces.
