| Promising, but this needs better sources, far more research and more clarity (also see if anyone else has created a similar quiz which either duplicates this one or might serve as a source for research). Korea was (sadly) occupied by Japan in 1910, and Formosa (Taiwan) in 1895. Okinawa, in the Ryukyu Islands, was, I think, part of Japan before 1931. Saipan is in the Mariana Islands, a former German possession occupied by Japan in 1914, which became a Japanese mandate under the League of nations after World War I. There was no Malaysia before 1963; what you want is Malaya, British North Borneo (now Sabah within the Federation of Malaysia) and Sarawak (also in Malaysia), plus Singapore (helped form Malaysia in 1963, but left in 1964) and Brunei. Papua New Guinea isn't included in your quiz. Nor are many island dependencies, such as the Solomons (rather than the sites of famous battles like Midway, Okinawa and Saipan). Japan occupied the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, now part of India, and installed the "Free India" (Azad Hind) puppet government there. Please allow Macao for Macau. And consider how you want to treat the international settlement in Shanghai. I'm certainly very far from an expert on Greater East Asian history from 1931 to 1946, but many other bits of China (besides Manchuria) were also occupied by Japan. I never want to discourage quiz-framers but this is one of those topics that's far more complicated than it looks. |
