	State motto trivia: John Wilkes Booth shouted Virginia's "Sic Semper Tyrannis" after shooting Lincoln -- a sentiment shared by quite a few 'States' Rights' proponents in the modern US. Ironically, prisoners in a Concord, New Hampshire jail make the state's licence plates, on which bear its motto "Life Free or Die". Also ironically, Wyoming, whose motto "Equal Rights" (and official nickname "The Equality State") commemorates it being the first state to grant women suffrage (1870), does not allow same-sex marriage.

	@ianbob- it may be interesting, but the early people who lived there (especially the mormons) had to survive on their industrial skills, pretty much self sustaining until the railroad was finished (also in utah, another sign of industry in the state). in fact, the state logo of the beehive (found for example on state route markers) is a symbol of industry as well, since bees work hard in their hives as well.

	A measure of how difficult (but very good) quiz is this, is that with only 12 answers I scored in the 94th percentile. I wonder why so few people got Michigan. Instead abstract concepts, the motto gives a clue about the location of the state: a peninsula (in fact, two). It would be easy to try all the states with peninsulas: Florida, Massachusetts and not many more, until guessing Michigan. It's strange that only 18% got it right.

	"Nothing Without Providence" may be Colorado's motto, but "Nothing without Providence" is also a description of Rhode Island.
