| (1) Antietam could probably be considered as crucial, if not even more so, as Gettysburg. If the South had actually won at Antietam, they would have likely received international recognition. Additionally, it provided the impetus for Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Gettysburg and Vicksburg certainly sealed the deal, so to speak, but Antietam probably had slightly father-reaching consequences. That said, you do include the Emancipation Proclamation, so you could still argue that Antietam is too related to the Proclamation to be included. Your decision. (2) Instead of the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner, I'd suggest inclusion of something actually relevant to the outcome of the War of 1812, probably the Treaty of Ghent. (3) It would be wonderful if you could include something about the internet, programming, or computing in general. Of course, then you'd have to eliminate something else... (4) I like the suggestion that you add a third column for the category. However, I think including the full date, like debbiedoesnothin suggested, would be superfluous, even if you don't include the third column. |
