Two minutes is a bit easy, but that might just be all the sporclage in me (definitely wouldn't have been able to do this a year ago.)

All grouped together, from the Mississippi to the Rockies. Multiple word capital names corellates with small capitals in low density states.

After spending 90 of my 120 seconds trying to spell Montpelier, and missing 3 because of it, I looked it up and discovered that whoever founded the city forgot to put a space in there.

@elnok: Tommy_C is absolutely right--consider looking up "correlate". It just means that one makes the other more likely, not that one requires the other. E.G., maleness is correlated with greater height, notwithstanding the existence of Napoleon and the WNBA. See also the idiom about "the exception that proves the rule".

Salt Lake City was a Final Jeopardy! answer last week as the only three-word capital. Was this quiz inspired by that? Hmmmm....

I'm really surprised that Salt Lake City is in last place in the stats. I'd've expected that to be right up at the top, with poor old Missouri and Minnesota at the bottom, as usual.

@davidr: I think people start thinking in terms of two word cities rather than multiple word capitals and therefore forget Salt Lake City -- at least, that's what this person did.

you COULD go trickier and include capitals like Madison, Wisconsin: since it has both MAD and SON. Spring-field, illinois....Jack-son, MS....TALL-aha-SEE, FL....etc

How in the world is Salt Lake City the most missed? That's always the first city that comes to mind when thinking of multi-word state capitals. I mean, it's the only one with THREE words!

Someone should add in "La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asís" as a bonus since that is the official name of the New Mexico state capital.

All are (mostly or all) west of the Mississippi. All are contiguous with each other. Five states in a column (Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana) + Oklahoma + New Mexico + Utah at Four Corners + Nevada.
