I'm suprised Los Angeles didn't score lower, seeing that the air is the dirtiest in the nation. Also suprising is San Diego; the last time I went to downtown San Diego it looked pretty dirty to me.

I agree that there are some surprises. Admittedly the source was published in 2005, so perhaps there have been changes since then.

The first city I typed was Atlanta, and I couldn't believe it wasn't one of the 10 dirtiest. Then I tried Detroit and Cleveland too. No luck...but then I checked the source, and they're three of the next four dirtiest, so I'll take it.

I expected to see New Orleans. Even in 2005, how any city that smells of the previous night's puke and urine on my morning walk through the downtown could not make the dirtiest list is beyond me (although I'm sure the entire city is not like that).

I wonder how they determined this...Chicago has never seemed dirty to me; certainly cleaner than L.A.
