Now that Josiah and Jeremiah are among the top 100, and Jeremy isn't (!), I can only assume that parents have taken a huge step forward in terms of gender equality. In previous years, newborn girls were singled out for ridicule when they were given names like Hannah, Olive, and May (which only sound age-appropriate for women who are used to hearing Willard Scott wish them a happy birthday) - while their brothers would get relatively normal-sounding names. Now, parents are truly treating their kids equally. Boys and girls alike can experience the embarrassment of having a name that somehow is both outdated and hopelessly trendy. I'd like to think that the Josiahs are being given those names because their parents are West Wing fans, but I have my doubts.

I feel like I've made this same comment a dozen times....you can't have a list of top names for 2010 when the year is not yet half over. As of today, the official list for 2009 isn't even out. This is the list for 2008, and it's been done already.
