| BCL-6 rearrangements occur in 40% of diffuse large B cell lymphomas and also in 5-10% of follicular lymphomas. MALT1 rearrangements (usually t(11;18)) occur in 40% of cases of MALT lymphoma, at least in the stomach and lung. The official name for this neoplasm is extranodal marginal zone lymphoma. Deletion of 5q in isolation (without other cytogenetic abnormalities) is characteristic of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), though MDS often progresses to AML. However, cases in which the deletion of 5q is the only abnormality are generally indolent (this subset has been called the "deletion 5q syndrome." |
