| In fact, if the averages had always been used, there would have been two scoring titles that would have belonged to someone else. Joe Fulks would have repeated as scoring leader in 1947-48, but only appeared in 43 games, finishing second in total points. Oscar Robertson would have won the 1967-68 scoring title, but only played in 65 games, finishing 6th in total points that season. Likewise, if the total points had continued to define the scoring champion after 1969, we would have had 9 seasons where the champion would have been different, including one more title each for Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, and Alex English, two more for Kobe Bryant, as well as giving a title to Kevin Garnett, Jerry Stackhouse, and Paul Pierce. |
