Agrarian Land Reform in 1952 to distribute unused land to make agriculture more effective in the region. This did not help the United Fruit Company, which owned a lot of the land in Guatemala. CIA trained ‘liberation force’ with elements of Guatemalan military. On June 14, 1954, US planes flown by US pilots strafed Guatemalan towns. Arbenz resigned on June 27, 1954. Outcomes of the Counterrevolution: This was one of the first major tests of US Cold War policy in Latin America. This strengthened anti-communist stance in the US. The revolution established the most brutal regime in the hemisphere.
