I can't believe I forgot Harry Potter.

Aww, this quiz is so great in accepting alternative (shorter) answers, and then I stumble over 'deathly hallows'; never thought of adding 'part 1'. Nearly forgot Star Wars 1-3, even though I had the original trilogy. duh.

Yeah, Fenrik, I thought about that one for a minute - but since "Part 2" will be here later this year, I figured I had to differentiate. Oh, and if you like this game, I just created a similar one: highest grossing sequels of the '80s. (This one was just too full of recent movies.) http://www.sporcle.com/games/joshmassey/80ssequels

Did no James Bond films gross enough to make the list, or are they excluded because there’d just be too many? If so it might be worth mentioning in the notes that they’re excluded. (I can see how one could argue that they’re a franchise not a series or something, but it’s a little subtle.)

Yeah, I'm quite sure that none of the James Bond series earned more than Wolverine, unless if you adjust for inflation

I'd be giving this five orbs anyway, but the Electric Boogaloo bonus cements it.

I know they're not very good, but I'm quite surprised none of the Narnia films are here too, I thought they did pretty well at the box office. Good quiz!

@maaxwell: the first one did wery well but not the sequels. Also, I had no idea I had already played this quiz and guess what... I, once again, forgot Harry Potter !

This would also be really interesting if adjusted for inflation to see if Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, or Beverly Hills Cop crack the list.

I was just about to say you didn't include Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, but I was sad to see it missed the cut by a mere $13,000 to Wolverine!

Superman Returns wasn't exactly a reboot - it was kind of a sequel to Superman II that pretended Superman III and IV didn't exist and had a new cast. I'd say it should probably at least be a bonus.

Box Office Mojo has a top 100 movies of all time adjusted for inflation list. 22 of those movies are sequels or prequels. The ones that make that list that don't make this one are two James Bond movies (Thunderball and Goldfinger), The Bells of St. Mary's (the 1945 sequel to the Bing Crosby classic Going My Way), and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

i'm with CraigR. Surely a movie with the FLYING V and the KNUCKLEPUCK must've grossed over 300 million! This has to be a mistake

I wrestled with including Superman Returns, but ultimately decided not to because it wasn't enough of a direct sequel. None of the same people were involved, plus Superman II already had a direct sequel. And I also decided against adjusting for inflation, which kept James Bond out of the picture.

It will accept "Deathly Hallows Part 1," however. I had to differentiate it from the upcoming sequel in some way.
