Excellent quiz! I believe that Boston actually has six; Revere, Somerville, Cambridge, Newton, Brookline, and Quincy.

The City of Industry, California, borders six: Pico Rivera, El Monte, Baldwin Park, West Covina, Pomona, and Diamond Bar. Pretty remarkable for a city of only 219 people.

Do water borders count? If so, then Jersey City, NJ should be here, seeing as it borders Bayonne, Hoboken, Union City, and North Bergen on land, and it has water borders with Newark and New York City.

If water borders are accepted, then Newark should also be here, as it borders East Orange, Irvington, and Elizabeth on land and Jersey City and Bayonne on water.

Brookline is a CDP so it doesn't count

Irvington is a township not a town or city so it doesn't count for Newark's total

@jonesjeffum: Brookline is a town (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brookline,_Massachusetts) so it should count. Also, as for Irvington, while it is a township, it is also incorporated (all municipalities are incorporated in New Jersey), so if you are including all incorporated municipalities (which I strongly recommend) then it does count.

Actually, Jersey City does share a land border with New york on Ellis Island. In the late 90's, a court rulled that the natural part of the island is New York, and the man made part is New Jersey (Jersey City), so yes New York and Jersey City share a land border.(http://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/523/767/)

@BiloxiSean: That's very interesting! I didn't know that. Well then, therefore there is no excuse for Jersey City not appearing on this quiz.

Oh, and also, Philadelphia should be here, because it is bordered by Upper Darby Twp, Lower Merion Twp, Abington Twp, and Bensalem Twp on land, and then Camden across the river.

@jonesjeffum: Brookline, MA is as town as town can get. It was first settled in 1638 and incorporated as a town in 1705. And it has 58k people.

Look at the US Census map... according to the source it is a CDP... that's the only thing I can go off of

Town(ship)s can be CDPs as well, especially in MA and NJ that's often the case. It is the census' way of describing non-cities that act like cities (although I've noticed some strange decisions on their part). I think it's the quizmaker's decision, but the description does say that it includes towns...

@jonesjeffum: But you say in your note, "Villages, Boroughs, and Towns counted but not CDPs." Should not the fact that it was an incorporated town over 80 years before the first U.S. Census (and it has never ceased to be) count more than the much later designation of a CDP?
