About 5-10 players are still active.
Sep 9th, 2011 at 08:15 GMT
Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Omer Asik, and Andres Nocioni are still on active rosters. Also, I wouldn't call a player "inactive" if his contract just ended this offseason (i.e. Vladimir Radmanovic), or if they signed a contract with a European team that has an option to return if the lockout is ended (i.e. Darius Songaila)

What about Tony Parker?
Sep 9th, 2011 at 09:25 GMT
And Steve Nash? By the way, what is the rationale for choosing some countries and not others?
Sep 9th, 2011 at 10:03 GMT
Great quiz, really enjoyed it! @Dazz: Parker was born in Belgium, and Belgium isn't on the list, unfortunately.
Sep 9th, 2011 at 10:10 GMT
@Terabas Steve Nash was born in South Africa.
Sep 9th, 2011 at 11:53 GMT
I felt like Andrew Gaze had more of an NBA presence. Probably because of the Sydney Olympics.
Sep 9th, 2011 at 13:05 GMT
Forgot Mike Pietrus, born in France (well, actually he was born in Guadeloupe, which is part of France).
Sep 9th, 2011 at 15:43 GMT
Peja Stojakovic was born in Croatia, but he's a serbian player.
Sep 9th, 2011 at 18:11 GMT
Great Quiz !

I am utterly incompetent at spelling a lot of these names.
Sep 9th, 2011 at 23:27 GMT
Pekovic needs a *.
Sep 10th, 2011 at 19:05 GMT
How does ANYBODY get that dude who's only score 5 points?
Sep 11th, 2011 at 16:33 GMT
@darksilver When he was on your home team's roster. Also when he's a part of the Jerry Stackhouse/Richard Hamilton trade. Luck of the draw for me.
Sep 12th, 2011 at 17:16 GMT
I thought of Szczerbiak to guess because he has a foreign-sounding last name. I was shocked when he actually came up for Spain. Turns out his father was playing for Madrid at the time.
Sep 13th, 2011 at 06:42 GMT
Absolute mind candy for a die-hard NBA fan. Couldn't even name 3 of 5 Canadians (and yes I knew Nash was born in Johannesbourg). Flummoxed by Parker, and the Chinese dude that has more points than Yao. Do you think he'll limp back on to the court to beat his record? It's a source of pride! And who could guess Zerbiak was Spanish. He's a Polak from the midwest! Great quiz, kudos to jonesjeffum.

It's cool that all five of Turkey's players are still active. That's a good sign that the sport is on the rise in that country.
Sep 14th, 2011 at 18:29 GMT
You could also include Planet Lovetron.
Sep 22nd, 2011 at 19:40 GMT
A lot more of these are active. For example, Diop is on the Bobcats. Khryapa played for CSKA last year but stated he wants to come back to the NBA if possible (pending the strike). etc.
Sep 29th, 2011 at 15:33 GMT
Still misses Pietrus for France. More than 4000 points at that time.
Nov 21st, 2011 at 16:11 GMT
Pekovic is no more an NBA players, he plays for Partizan Belgrade.
Dec 11th, 2011 at 04:12 GMT
I thought Pietrus might have been born elsewhere, but that's not the case. So, it does appear that he should be added for France. Ronny Turiaf also has enough (1888 career points) to rank over most of the others listed for France. (See: http://espn.go.com/nba/player/stats/_/id/2789/ronny-turiaf) Like Pietrus, he was born in a French territory (Martinique, in this case).
Jan 18th, 2012 at 12:21 GMT
David Andersen is actually playing in Italy, he shouldn no more be listed as an active NBA player.

No option for Jurrasic Park? (Chris Bosh)
May 20th, 2012 at 15:56 GMT
Just to pre-empt any complaints note that Steve Nash was born in South Africa and Tony Parker was born in Belgium
May 20th, 2012 at 15:58 GMT

Kobe Bryant has 29,484. He passed Shaq for 5th place in February.
May 20th, 2012 at 20:54 GMT
Scoring 5 in the nba haha
May 20th, 2012 at 22:30 GMT
probably also keep in mind, even though Luol Deng plays for Great Britain internationally, he was born in Sudan
May 21st, 2012 at 02:05 GMT
Of course I try Deng, Nash and Parker. And then immediately wikipedia them.
May 21st, 2012 at 02:23 GMT
If you got Vincenzo Esposito, it's because you listen to 'Tim and Sid'.
May 21st, 2012 at 02:26 GMT
Was going through the foreign sounding names with the Oklahoma City Thunder and thought of Thabo Sefolosha, but Switzerland isn't even on the list.
May 21st, 2012 at 03:40 GMT
While I would agree that Sasha Pavlovic can hardly be called an "active" player, he unfortunately has been occupying a roster spot for the Celtics this season.

Germany's #2 and #3 seem out of order (or there's a typo in the scores).
May 21st, 2012 at 13:10 GMT
Loved this quiz, very challenging. I'm pretty happy with getting 79, yet I could have done better. I remember Dare and N'Diaye, but forget about Nocioni and Vandeweghe.
May 21st, 2012 at 18:51 GMT
Patrick Ewing? Dikembe Mutombo? Manute Bol? Dennis Rodman is from another planet? By the way jonesjeffum what is your source?
May 21st, 2012 at 21:24 GMT
No Batum? And Magloire is still active. Stojakovic, Pavlovic and Pops are not.
Comment below threshold:

Anyone who knows anything about the NBA and appreciates accurate Sporcle quizzes should not support this..where to even begin with the mistakes/inaccuracies. I recommend everyone report this. Nice concept, but horribly, horribly, horribly executed.
