| Some misinformation on the NBA territorial picks, it was a team's option to forfeit their first round pick to take a player within a 50-mile radius of the team's arena. They weren't required to do so. Additionally, the territorial picks were not counted as the #1 pick either. The exception to this is when Cincinnati picked Oscar Robertson with their territorial pick, but it didn't matter since they owned the first pick in the draft anyway.
The comment about most teams having legitimate first round guys in their region...the most territorial picks used in a single draft was three. The Celtics were just fortunate with some of their picks, for example eight players were selected before Havlicek. |
