The Terry Gilliam one confused me, for he co-directed it with Terry Jones.

Why do I keep getting Wes Anderson and P. T. Anderson mixed up?

Didn't get Scorsese because I've tried to forget The Departed. Forever.

Typing "Se7en" and "The Social Network" repeatedly in disbelief cost me a lot of time before I remembered there is another, not in the true sense of the word "unsuccessful" film by David Fincher, that isn't "Zodiac" ;-)

I was confused on Gilliam as well. I think more of those films he directed solely, such as Brazil or The Fisher King.

Tony Scott but no Ridley Scott? Lots of fun overall though.

I kept typing "Titanic" over and over again, thinking that I didn't spell it correctly. And then it hit me.

I wonder if Wes Anderson is so low on the correctly guessed list because people type in "Tannenbaum" instead.

Even though The Departed is a solid movie, it's somewhat sad when that's the most guessed movie for a guy who directed Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, Mean Streets, and Goodfellas (among others). Good quiz nonetheless.

Perfect on the left side. And then came the right side... Fun quiz nonetheless.

Tony Scott, Gus Van Sant and Shyamalan are pointless aditions. Those directors have such small repertoires that it is obvious what the answer is. Brian De Palma, Billy Wilder and John Ford would be better choices.

Joehemmings, how many films do you count as having a medium or large repertoire? Tony Scott directed 16 films, not exactly a small number of films, especially compared to the 11 of Terry Gilliam, the 8 of James Cameron, the 8 of Quentin Tarantino or the 7 of Wes Anderson, all of whom you seem to feel have directed enough movies to be on here.

@Joehemmings - as far as I can see, De Palma is the only one of the 3 directors you mentioned who actually features in a Sporcle quiz where you try to name the films a director has made. The most guessed film on that quiz by quite a long way is the one I expected it to be. Worth pointing out that at this moment Tony Scott's most guessed film is the least guessed on this quiz.

Very interesting results. I've never seen The Departed but I associate Goodfellas, Raging Bull and Taxi Driver with Scorsese more than anything else. Would have liked to see John Waters just for curiosity's sake.

Royal Tenenbaums is one of the worst movies ever made. Great cast, terrible story.

I would have put Billy Wilder on this quiz but he doesn't have a quiz published. One of my favorite directors.

We need to start guessing "Titanic", "The Terminator" and "Alien" more for Cameron and "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (The REAL Avatar) for Shyamalan. Also... No John Landis?

I'm surprised that Holy Grail is the most guessed on Gilliam's filmography but not as surprised as I am at myself for failing to remember it. I must have named every single other film he directed.

@Ovamiat: The aforementioned, unmentioned Ridley Scott directed "Alien" ... James Cameron directed "Aliens". Both great films in their own right.

@Jules824 - Yes, I tried Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and a few others before I finally got down to The Departed. I think it's an overrated movie.

Totally agree w/the Scorsese comments re his other films. General feeling is the Academy Award he received for his most guessed film was more a Lifetime Achievement award since he never won for his other great films. With Kubrick I wonder what the gap was between his most guessed and his 'other' great film-- ya know, the one with the number.

@jeffg3wksapart - Dances With Wolves beating Goodfellas for Best Picture has to be the biggest Oscar travesty ever.
