How about accepting Portland, Fresno, San Jose, etc without the State?

I think the "State" should be required since the quiz asks us to name the universities, not the cities. I was going to ask for a bonus for University of Phoenix but then I read the game note...

I assume this is just undergraduate student population, right? University of Chicago would barely make the list with just over 15,000 including grad students if you're allowing that.

Ahh, wish I could delete posts. Apparently you are including total enrollment (as evinced by the 15,449 one). University of Chicago SHOULD be on the list :-)

@jonesjeffum - except SUNY stands for State University of New York. New York is a city. It may be referring to the state, but it still has a major U.S. city in the name.

You need to say something more clear than "not referring to campus location." I had avoided the various Cal State locations you have listed because those definitely refer to the locations of the universities in question. And they're no different than Cal State Long Beach, Cal State LA, etc.

Your directions don't make it clear that University of Washington and Washington State University don't qualify. They certainly have a large city in their name, and you never specify that the university has to be in or near that city. So the SUNYs should all count (if they're big enough) since they have New York in their names too, or you should be more clear in the instructions.

The problem is that there's no functional difference between CSU campuses that put the city name first -- Fresno State University, San Diego State University, etc. -- and the CSU campuses that put the name at the end -- Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, etc. -- they're all separate universities within a larger CSU system. Likewise, all the the UCs follow the latter format (UCLA, UC San Diego, etc.), but they're separate universities within a larger system, too.

I agree this needs to be worded better. I didn't apply to SUNY, I applied to a specific university and to that university only. Thus, I gave up when my alma mater wasn't listed.
