Cambridge? Never would have said that...

Are these really the most beautiful or just the most stereotypical "name a city" places with Cambridge thrown in there? NYC is dirty, Tokyo is really not particularly beautiful, and British people always tell me how awful London is. I guess I was hoping for more interesting cities.

London more beautiful than Rome? Don't make me laugh. As for Tokyo - the place is incredible but never beautiful. Kyoto is infinitely more beautiful.

I can't imagine that anyone who's ever been to Stockholm (or Prague, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, or Bruges, for that matter) would say that New York or Chicago is prettier.

Hey I agree with you all, definitely there are more beautiful cities, but this is what Forbes said. They had a panel of "experts" put them together

London is undoubtedly interesting, there are so many museums and stuff to see, but it is butt-ugly. There is nothing in the least bit beautiful about London. Whereas Rome, or practically any city in Italy (bar a few) are incredibly beautiful! At least Florence is there. I've not been to Venice but I've heard it's very dirty and run-down and not at all what you'd expect. Cambridge is very small so can't really be compared to some of the others on this list. It's much easier for a small place to keep its old buildings than a big place that constantly expands. No offense to the quizmaker, I just think the journalist from Forbes didn't think very hard when making this list.

Despite all the above comments, it's interesting how easy this quiz was to guess - shows how little imagination those good people at Forbes have!

Wow, I'll add my name to the list of shocked people here. I couldn't believe London, New York or Chicago got the nod over Rome, Barcelone, Amsterdam or Prague (stunning city). I'm glad LA didn't make it in mind, that would have really taken the biscuit. Crazy idiots down at Forbes..... seem to have really reinvented the word beautiful.

Yeah, I think the people at Forbes should rename their list "most recognisable cities" or "cities with famous landmarks", because I can definitely think of TONS more beautiful than almost any of these cities.

Chicago is perhaps the prettiest of America's big cities, but it shouldn't be on the list, and neither should New York. @joebobs- While I agree that cities included on the list are not the most beautiful in the world, there is beauty to be found in all of them, including in London. No need to be so negative.

So we are all in agreement that Chicago is prettier than New York or London? Good. At least we've excelled at some sort of competition.

I like Chicago - amazing looking city centre. But so does Rome. I would also place any of Stockholm, Vienna or Buenos Aires ahead of most others on the list. Melbourne ahead of Sydney - and if we're talking beautiful settings (which is why Cape Town and Sydney made it surely) then where is Rio??

This is puzzling. Cambridge is a very odd choice, particularly as it resembles a lot of small old-looking British towns, there's nothing remarkable about it. To all London-bashers, I agree I wouldn't place it so high on the list, but labelling it 'butt-ugly' is making yourself sound a tad absurd. London has some great architecture and amazing parks. It is pretty wondrous to look at.

I was surprised by some of the answers, even when I guessed right (London in particular). Should have gotten Venice.

This is definitely one of the strangest lists I've ever seen. London isn't pretty at all. Also, the order given here does not seem to match the order given in the link.

So have Forbes been anywhere else in the UK except London and a day trip up to Cambridge? Whilst there are nice parts of London, in terms of beauty its nothing on cities like Edinburgh, Durham, York, Chester, Oxford etc. I guess they didn't have time to see all these places, but then don't produce a list!

London is very beautiful if you're on a Forbes-paid trip and don't bother going outside the tourist hotspots. The rest of it is... nice, I'll say as a resident, but not beautiful. Same goes for New York I would say, one of my favourite world cities but beautiful? I'll take Venice or Florence, thanks.

I do think Cambridge is nicer than Oxford, but I would have put Edinburgh or even the smaller city of York on the list before Cambridge. Budapest and Bergen (Norway) are two other places I'd consider for the list.

@joebobs - Venice is beautiful, one of my favorite cities I've been to. You should check it out some time. Also, I agree that Stockholm and Bern are very pretty!

I live in London and I do love the place for its vibrancy, culture, history and whatnot, but aesthetically, it's a hole. Stockholm, Munich... now there's some pretty cities. Also, Cambridge is variable, and its placing on /this/ list is inexplicable
