| Well, Utah won't be in the Pac-10 until July, 2011, so until then they are part of the MWC.
As for Illinois, on a more subjective list, they would not be listed as high as they are here. However, that program is generally considered the greatest program without a National Title. On a decade by decade breakdown starting in the 40's, they finish #3, #2, #12, unranked, #4, #29, #6. There's your reasoning for their ranking. Consistently good to great program outside for the 70's and mid-90's. 29 tourney appearances and 5 final fours. Certainly, as other people have pointed out, the list is flawed when you put a huge premium on a national title. But that wasn't the point of the list. It's an attempt to objectively list programs on their success all-time. By almost all objective measures besides national titles, Illinois is top 15. Illinois is also helped by the fact that Sagarin's rankings are heavily Big Ten top heavy FWIW. |
