@ncr1119: "In the Air Tonight" peaked at #2 UK, but only #19 US. "Rio": #9 UK, #14 US. "Hungry Like the Wolf": #5 UK, #3 US.
@Happ_Hazard: "Red Red Wine" was released in the US about the same time as the UK, but at the time rap (or specifically, "toasting") was not considered acceptable on most top 40 stations, so the song squeaked into the top 40. Five years later, an Arizona DJ started playing it as a "woulda been, shoulda been" hit. Other radio stations joined in and eventually, so did the band's US label, this time including the now-acceptable rap at the end of the song.
"Thriller" was the 6th song released from the album. By that point, anyone who wanted the song had bought the album. Combine that with a delayed single release to increase album sales, and "Thriller" only went to #4 US, #10 UK. |
