I don't think it accepted "Rimes." Also, I'm going to pretend that the reason I got Cher wasn't that I was trying to guess Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

Can't believe Hootie and the Blowfish aren't on here.
Aug 14th, 2012 at 23:42 GMT
Hootie, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, R.E.M., U2, . . . lots of seminal artists during the decade that didn't impact the singles charts

Please accept Sir Mix-a-lot without hyphens, if that's possible. Great quiz, even though it did make me remember "Informer".

Wow that is some crap music from that decade ... very good quiz though.

What's curious about the 70's, 80's and 90's quizzes is that each one has exactly 69 artists in it.

I messed up trying to get multiple answers, I froze on who was hot for a particular year.

What, no Chumbawumba?
Sep 14th, 2012 at 19:20 GMT
So many I forgot to enter because I absolutely forgot they existed. And I wasn't an unhappier person for that.

Sixpence None the Richer?

"Kiss Me" was a massive hit.

Once Nirvana wasn't on there, there was no need to go on. [sigh] Fun concept, but I don't remember most of these acts.

The ugly side of 90s music that proves our view of the past is rose-tinted
Sep 14th, 2012 at 20:47 GMT
Before anyone complains about how music 'used' to be good, remember that the No. 1 song of 1969 (in the US AND UK) was 'Sugar, Sugar' by the Archies (as in 'Archie Comics'). YEAH.

Can someone *please* make a version of this quiz that uses the billboard rock charts instead of the hot 100 charts? It would be far more reflective of the 90s.
Sep 14th, 2012 at 20:53 GMT
Wow, that is 10 years of suck.
Sep 14th, 2012 at 20:56 GMT
Great quiz concept. Is there one for the 2000s? would love to play it because I was young during this era

One of the things people have to remember about the 90s is that until 1999, Billboard did not chart songs that were never released as singles. So some big hits on the radio that could have easily gone to #1 did not chart until they reached the apex of their popularity, at which point record companies would release the song as a single, it would catapault into the top 10, and then quickly drop back out again. If not for this, Alanis Morissette, the Goo Goo Dolls, the Cardigans, No Doubt, Natalie Imbruglia, and still some others could have been on this quiz.

Yeah, this one definitely went against my instincts repeatedly. While I actually do remember most of these, generally speaking they aren't what I remember first.

This quiz doesn't make much sense to me. Kind of like the Rolling Stone Best Vocalists quiz. Seems quite subjective. Even with that formula of awarding points and such. "Jagged Little Pill" was a huge, huge album. And though you may not want to admit it, Hootie and the Blowfish sold millions and millions!

no big willie style? wiggity wiggity wack
Sep 16th, 2012 at 09:38 GMT
Huh? I thought Britney Spears was the it-girl of 1999.
Sep 16th, 2012 at 11:56 GMT
Britney's probably not on there because "Baby One More Time" didn't come out until the end of 1999, therefore she probably wasn't on the chart long enough in the year to get enough points to make it on here. On a side note, I have to say, I would do much better on a UK version of this quiz; most of these people never did well over here and I've never heard of half of them.
Sep 16th, 2012 at 16:35 GMT
Spears' album wasn't released until 1999, but I think singles (like Baby one More time) were out in at least 98. And no Alanis. I don't get this one.
Sep 17th, 2012 at 09:28 GMT
It didn't accept "CandC Music Factory" or "NKOTB"
Feb 15th, 2013 at 23:33 GMT
I remember the 90's having music a lot better than this!
Feb 17th, 2013 at 17:44 GMT
No Spears, Morissette, or Nirvana. Huh.
Feb 18th, 2013 at 16:33 GMT
Overall top ten for the 90s: 1. Mariah Carey (1448), 2. Boyz II Men (1015), 3. Janet Jackson (843), 4. TLC (775), 5. Whitney Houston (712), 6. Celine Dion (606), 7. Monica (557), 8. Madonna (555), 9. Toni Braxton (431), 10. Puff Daddy (405).
