Here I am thinking Phila doesn't go far south enough to touch Delaware, and forgetting that it borders my home state. Dohhh!!! Good thing I flew into Cincinatti's airport, which is actually across the state border in Kentucky. That got me two answers. I got Virginia Beach, but not Chesepeake. I guess Norfolk doesn't border NC. I was also wondering what the population of Chester PA is, as it borders Delaware.

Yikes! I was so careful not to include Chicago because it does not border Wisconsin that I completely forgot about Indiana. Sorry about that.

I'm a little surprised that Providence doesn't border Massachusetts.

East Providence does border Massachusetts, but Providence does not.

Elizabeth seems like it is below the population threshold here, even though none is actually given... maybe a column to the left with populations might clear things up? (there are several other cities over 100,000 I thought of that meet the description but have smaller populations than all of these). Also, the city limits of New York do not border Connecticut.

Now expanded to all cities of at least 100,000 inhabitants. Have fun with the last few. ... Also, thanks for the catch on NYC not bordering Connecticut. My new favorite trivia question: What is the largest city in the United States that borders two states?

According to the most recent GIS data I've seen, the southeastern city limits of Sioux Falls now touch the northwestern-most corner of Iowa. I was trying to find a good source, I can't remember where I found the GIS shapefile, but it just barely does...somewhat corner-to-corner. I was unable to find a good enough map source to demonstrate how it's working, but if you read through this thread it talks a lot about how it's touching the Iowa border: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=128831&page=15

I think that you should include cities that touch other countries as well. This would add San Diego, Detroit, Brownsville, Buffalo, Laredo, and McAllen, and now El Paso would touch both another state and another country.

Savannah, GA has a population around 130,000 and a small part of its border touches the Savannah River which is the border between Georgia and South Carolina.

Seems kind of ridiculous to call this "border cities" and then not include cities that border other countries like Buffalo and Detroit.

Stamford CT does not border NY, unless you count crossing Long Island Sound, which is definitely not a river.

I was making a quiz called biggest land borders cities when my computer crashed. This is close to what I made. And BTW, Stamford does not border NY, but Greenwich does.

Arlington is not legally a city. (It's a county.) "Arlington, VA" is an invention of the USPS to cover the unincorporated territory in the county.

Stamford actually does border NY. Not to the West (Greenwich, CT), but to the North. Stamford is part of that little notch of CT that juts into NY.

@dxdtdemon The Columbia river does not form a border between Oregon and Idaho, nor is there large city on the border even if it did.
