I hope the instructions make enough sense, you must first name a US state with 'A' as the first letter, then 'B', etc. Once you have finished the 1st category, go to second and so on. Thanks for playing! Please comment if any improvements can be made, thanks!

Good quiz, but I think you missed Michigan and Minnesota for 2I

Thanks! Will add ASAP.

Maine doesn't work for 4th letter N.
Aug 13th, 2011 at 05:52 GMT
Maine also doesn't work for second letter A.
Aug 13th, 2011 at 05:59 GMT
And Missouri or Mississippi for second letter I. And Montana for second letter O. Probably more, but that's all I found.

Thanks everybody, not sure what happened. :)

Wow. Fun, fun game. Nominated.

Fun quiz, I enjoyed it a lot, even though I didn't do very well. I wasn't sure what the objective was exactly when I got to the second column, so if you could make it dot-nose obvious in the title of the columns what you need to do, I think that would help a lot of sporclers out.

Instructions were clear enough to me. Solved it by virtue of singing the "fifty nifty" states song four times.

Good quiz. I could have done better with another minute (and not spending so long failing to think of a state starting with T)

Damn, half way through my final answer when time ran out. I found the 3rd letter ones hardest.
Jun 3rd, 2012 at 15:42 GMT
i convinced myself that there were no states that began with F! d'oh!

Interesting quiz. Found myself repeating a lot of answers.

After completing the first column (the easiest one), you can look at it to find answers for the other columns (e.g. after you enter any A-state and "Alabama" appears, you automatically have an L for the second, an A for the third and a B for the fourth column). This way you can get as much as 47 correct answers. Now the Sporcle Committee on Ethical Procedures must decide if this method can be qualified as cheating.

Another method the SCEP dancastro mentioned might object to is just go through the states one at a time. ALABAMA. Works for the A-L-A-B for the four columns. Then ALASKA...S for the 4th column. It's a lot of clicking to move the active box around, but it worked very well...until I was left with the 3rd letter K and had to go through the states again.

I just sang "50 Nifty" 4 times on one quiz. Thanks, Sporcle. :P

Never thought I would have to type Nebraska so often in the space of a few minutes.
Jun 3rd, 2012 at 19:19 GMT
Harder than it looks!
Jun 3rd, 2012 at 19:50 GMT
Gah, I missed one.
Jun 3rd, 2012 at 21:19 GMT
Great quiz, but needed more time.
Jun 3rd, 2012 at 21:27 GMT
Started easy, then got progressively more difficult until the last column was positively devilish... That's EXACTLY what I want in a Sporcle quiz. Love it!

very creative idea! and very much enjoyed

How many times can you sing "Fifty Nifty United States" verrrrryyy slooooowwwllyyyyy?
Jun 5th, 2012 at 20:50 GMT
Petty comment to come: the "Y" in sporcle's font of choice looks an awfully lot like the "v", at least on my desktop's monitor . . . this similarity is painful for those of us who thereby find ourselves stuck trying to recall what US state we failed to learn in the 4th Grade that features the second letter of "v". D@mn near tried the State of "Evergreen", imagining it as a pastoral land in the upper left corner of the continental map, wedged between Washington and Oregon perhaps.

need another minute because i cant type that fast
