cant believe nevaeh is #25 and jennifer or jessica, or mary for that matter didnt even made the top 100. When I have kids I wont be pleased with them unless they make a nevaeh cry everyday at school (just kiddin, but still)

@lucia: Jessica made #92 but I agree with your point. I don't know which is worse - having a top 10 name and always having other kids in your class with the same name (like Debbie when I was growing up) or having a made up name or a weird name no one's ever heard of.

Heaven spelled backwards? Sounds satanic to me. Love the idea of a child named Serenity. How often will the parents find themselves saying "Calm down, Serenity"?

To avoid having made a "Hey, guess what I'm thinking" quiz, you need to link your source. Good day.

I find the boy names on this list the most annoying, such as Avery, Taylor, Riley, Aubrey, Mackenzie, Peyton, Alexis, Addison, Bailey, Madison, Ashley, Sydney, just no!

Isabella as number 1. Unbelievable. It's a pretty name, but I guarantee you that would not be number one if it wasn't for Twilight...

@Skizzo: I don't know if it's because I'm 16 or because I'm from the South in the USA, but I know most of those "boy names" as exclusively girl names. I've never heard of a male Aubrey, Mackenzie, Alexis, Madison, Ashley, or Sydney. Weird.

do you think Addison has gain so many positions lately because of kate walsh's character on greys anatomy and private practice? I had never heard of that name before that, to be honest

The top name on the list is the main character from Twilight. Good to see so many losers having babies.

honestly, when will nevaeh go away? absolutely ridiculous. i've never actually met someone who named a kid that (thank goodness), so it boggles my mind that it cracked the top 25. ::facepalm::

My baby sister's middle name is Nevaeh, but luckily neither her name, nor her twin's name is on this list.

Do you realize that in 30 years, this is going to be a common conversation:
"Hi, I'm Addison." "Good to meet you, I'm Nevaeh." "My name's Genesis." "I'm Serenity." "Hello everyone, I'm Mary." (Long pause.) "Mary? Well gee, that's an unusual name."

I see "Brooklyn," I think "Dodgers." I see "Peyton," I think "Manning." I see "Avery," I think Steve Avery. Oh well, at least there are a few names like Rachel and Kimberly and Olivia and the perennially beautiful Elizabeth still on the list ...

@lucia and @sophiemadeline: Addison was already moving up in popularity before Grey's Anatomy. I think it became popular at first because people were looking for something similar to Madison. Same reason Avery became popular - it was similar to Ava. @superpole2000: Isabelle was popular before Isabella and Isabella was already moving up in popularity before Twilight became well known, but I do think the books/movie contributed.

Nevaeh is heaven backwards, according to wikipedia. Don't understand how anyone looks at a tiny baby and thinks 'She's heaven backwards!'

@ZYX - are you sure you need wikipedia to work out what Neveah spells backwards?

@Statto2 - if you come across an unusual name, do you really think "never heard of this name before. lets see what it reads backwards"? really?

@sora_ - you've slightly missed my (not very serious) point that while wikipedia can explain where the name comes from, you surely don't actaully need a website to work out what a word is backwards. I was pointing out how what ZYX said could be misinterpreted.

I've honestly never done worse on a sporcle quiz. I guess I'm just really out of touch with the baby demographic. Most of the women I know are old or named Jennifer.

In addition to all the other valid complaints here's another: the unexplainable popularity of tacking a "y" onto "Zoe." Do these parents think we're too stupid to pronounce it right? How to ruin a good name.

Please tell me why so many people think that Madison sounds even remotely like a girl's name. The mermaid in the movie Splash picked it for herself and it was thought amusing because she named herself after Madison Avenue. Come to think of it, it does sound like a name hatched by a marketing department.

It's kind of weird how people pick last names and give it to their girls--Madison, Addison, Bailey, Mackenzie, Morgan, etc. I never understood it, but I get weird looks from people if I bring it up, so I've learned it's not polite conversation. Anyway, we had a daughter in 2010 and named her Hope. Not on the list, but I don't think people will ever think it's too common or too weird.

Some of these sound like men's names from 100 years ago... Sydney? Peyton? Some, however, are good names.

It's interesting to compare two English speaking nations. This is the list for the UK - http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2009/sep/08/baby-names-children-jack-olivia-mohammed - (sorry Sporcle if you were planning to publish this as a quiz!). I don't want to use the word normal, but there are certainly some more familiar names in the UK list. Why have so many in the USA chosen to break from traditional names?

Why name your kid heaven backwards? that actually seems like it implies that their kid is the opposite of heaven, which is h-e-double-hockey-sticks! i think heaven as a name would be pretiier, cuz everyone knows what it is without having to spell it.

How about Anavrin? That's pretty catchy! Or for place names instead of Brooklyn, we've got a place in England called Lower Piddle, that might catch on!

@shark47...I have always wondered the kind of people who feel the need to post their scores on here. If you are going to be a DB at least be honest about it.
