I really thought that Tim Wakefield would have the wild pitch record. Him or Niekro. You can't catch a knuckleball with any regularity. Ask Varitek.

After 17 seasons, Wakefield only has 108 wild pitches (which is tied for 64th on the career list). That's 7 WP/year, even playing 10 more years Wakefield wouldn't catch Ryan.

Knuckleballs getting by catchers are very often passed balls because they look like they are right there but are tough to catch anyway.
