I believe Wizzle's "Country per Letter" quiz was the first of this kind, so credit to him/her for the idea. I followed Sporcle's "Capitals of the World" quiz regarding which capital (official, administrative, etc.) is accepted, as well as accepted alternate spellings. If I've missed something, let me know. Also, feel free to comment about the time. I'm sure some of you real geography buffs need less than a minute, while others 5 or more.

For me, the time was spot on - would have gotten all had I not accidentaly type 'funmafuti' on the last one. However, another minute may still be useful, this is rather unforgiving for slow typers or misspellings - on the other hand there's no point if everyone can get all first try, it should at least be some challenge and this is best as a speed quiz.

@cuendillar: You're right, it's intended to be a speed quiz, but I suppose another minute would help a lot of people out.
@moominpaul: Thanks, those have been fixed.

It's kind of amazing that no capital begins with E, even though there are capitals that begin with Q and Z.

What does it say about me that, sitting here in the USA, my 'W' world capital was 'Wellington' and not 'Washington, DC'?? Let me answer my own question: I'm on sporcle too @#$%ing much! Haha. @WorldWhiz: I agree, it is amazing -- and unacceptable for us sporclers. I say we sacrifice some other vowel-starting capital city. Emsterdam anyone? Or perhaps Estana or Euagadougou? And while we're at it, let's create an 'X' capital out of an 'S' capital -- say, Xantiago or Xarajevo. Think any countries will go for it -- for the sake of the quiz-taking world?! ;-)

Just to nitpick a little, the name of the US's capital is just "Washington." Requiring the "DC" would be like forcing people to type "Ottawa, ON" for the capital of Canada.

Not really..."DC" is treated as part of the capital. Ottawa is part of a territory in Canada. Washington, however, lies in no state.

I think the time is fine the way it is. Obviously you're not meant to finish the whole thing in the two minutes. I think you're just meant to get as many as possible and see how you compare with everyone else.

But some of us would like to see if we can finish it at all. Comparison with others is not a priority with everybody.

As it is, it works out to five seconds per answer. Needs more time so that people can actually think about it.

I like the fact I ran out of time. Its not as much of a challenge if you have all the time in the world to think of it. Theres plenty of other world capital quizzes for general non-time-pressured quizzage...

Very strange ...I typed the first two letters for Copenhagen and Cairo popped up. Then I typed Pa (for Paris) and some other city I never heard of popped up. So just a couple of clicks led to acceptable answers that were not of my own doing!

Stranger and stranger! Tried the quiz again. This time typing Ot for Ottawa) caused Oslo to appear, and then Li (for Lima) made La Paz pop up. This quiz is giving me credit before any is due!

Everybody always does London as the capital of the UK and then ignores the capitals of Scotland(Edinburgh), Wales(Cardiff) and Northern Ireland(Belfast). They're capitals too.

Not sure what you're doing, Yomamaruth, but none of that works. It is true that when one capital is entered, a whole list of capitals for that letter appears in the letter slot, where only the first entry in that list is visible.

i think 2 minutes is perfect... I think its very possible to finish in that time (not that I did) - if it was longer then there would be a high completion rate.

@Triffid: yep, it's often nice to have a quiz which is just tasting knowledge, not also speed. But there are lots of other quizzes like that, and it's fun to have some quizzes like this that are time challenges as well!

you should accept LIMA it's the capital of Peru. @CreamyGoodness, if you read Wiki carefully you will see that the UK is both a Sovereign state AND a country - leave my island nation alone! :P

I agree that the 2 minute time is good. If you just want to see if you can name all the capitals, there are other quizzes for that. The challenge here is about time. Very fun. Way more difficult than I would have thought!

This is a really interesting quiz. I think the time of okay, if it was longer it would be too easy. It was interesting to see what capitals I came up with.
