	@Masternachos: there's a good reason for that. The conventions are meant to appeal to voters, and D.C. couldn't vote until recently (and now it has 3 electoral votes and votes consistently Democratic, so it doesn't matter). @jmarshallg: they're different cities.

	Also, candidates often campaign against Washington, so having a convention there would be odd. Baltimore was picked because it was close to Washington, and many of the delegates would be coming from the congressional session. It was also convenient to access from further up the east coast.

	Can add 2012 now. Republicans going to be in Tampa, Democrats in Charlotte. PS Chicago makes sense as an early convention site. Remember, until 1972 or so Conventions were where the nomination was won, and were a gathering of representatives of state parties to make the selection. Chicago, being a centrally located big city and railroad hub, made it a natural fit.

	dirtyyankee02: yes, they are different cities - pretty much the same difference as between Los Angeles and Long Beach or between Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
