Spielberg won for Saving Private Ryan in 1998, not Oliver Stone. He won in 1989.

A lot of these are one line off. Reds is from 1981. Cabaret is from 1972. The Graduate is from 1967. Giant is from 1956. The Quiet Man is from 1952. A Place in the Sun is from 1951. A Letter to Three Wives is from 1949, when it lost to All the King's Men.

Wow - I never knew The Godfather didn't win Best Director, and I would never have guessed it without the year clue.

@Detektor: Bob Fosse was an Oscar-less legend and Francis Ford Coppola was a relative unknown. I hate the idea that the Oscar voters decided Coppola would eventually get his Oscar; luckily, they were right.

I think this quiz would be better if we had to guess which film won best director instead. That way the quiz isn't just a naming Best Picture Winners quiz.

outside of "the godfather" & "in the heat of the night" every film on this list is either highly overrated or just flat out terrible...amazing any of em won best picture
