This quiz is rife with errors. Some of them have been noted by other commenters, but a few others include:
- Michigan is misspelled.
- There is no such bird as the "great" Carolina wren (though some sources do list this archaic name for the bird).
- Not only is there no such bird as the "California Valley Quail", as Geo_Crazy observed, but quail isn't even spelled right in the answer.
- While sources differ on the Utah state bird — most sources say California gull (Larus californicus), the Utah statute says "sea gull", and the state's own web site says "California Seagull" — the "common American gull", which the quiz lists as the answer, is a term that not only hasn't been officially used in the better part of a century, but when in use denoted a different species, the ring-billed gull (Larus delawarensis).
If a Sporcler is going to duplicate an existing quiz (this one had been done several times already), the least he can do is offer something new therein — and spelling errors don't count as "something new". One of the errors was pointed out 18 months ago and the author never bothered to fix it. Inexcusable. |
