	Very good quiz. It might be worth putting the month that this top 50 was taken from so that people in a few months don't moan about it not being current.

	The problem with these lists is that they are always geared towards the newer movies. IMDB has many users who haven't even seen the older movies on this list, but since they enjoyed watching Dark Knight and Up five minutes ago, they'll deem it an all-time classic. The top three, however, are bona fide classics that I'm happy to see have obviously stood the test of time in the public consciousness.

	JohnJF, it's not number of votes or popularity. It's average rating. So whoever has seen it, however they vote the movie on average is how it will score. If anything, newer movies have a disadvantage since tons of people vote them 1/10 without seeing it.

	One time I spent several months, and went through and watched every single movie in the IMDb Top 250. I highly recommend any movie lover to do that. It was a wonderful journey through film, and you won't regret it!

	SanityLapse, you must have had a real sanity lapse if you think watching these films - many of which are classics, but which on the whole represent what a middle brow mind would think are great movies - is a film fan's duty. American History at 38th says it all. Or the very average Frank Darabont movie sitting first. This is a bad list, a list by people who have not bad, but conventional and boring, taste.

	@Barzuniac. You don't have to deny the quality of well known, acclaimed films, just to sound educated in cinema. Most people are fully aware of other great movies out there, but they don't insult well established classics just to sound like they know what they are talking about. The IMDb Top 250 is great for exploring different genres and directors if you like movies, but haven't heard of a lot of the ones there. I started with that list to really get into movies, and then was able to find more I liked because of it.

	I think it would help if instructions explained top 50 what. It could be highest grossing, or something, so tell us it's top 50 rated by IMDb users.

	In regards to the list, you have to remember that some peoples' life goals revolve around voting a 10 for their favorite movie as much as humanly possible. Therefore, you get the Lord of the Rings movies ranked in the top 20 all time. And we all know those movies are better than To Kill a Mockingbird, Chinatown, Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Patton, In the Heat of the Night, and everything Martin Scorsese has ever done. Right?
