| Merriam-Webster dictionary says EKG came from German, and I don't dispute that. But it is also true that all parts of these words (like many, many English words used in medicine and related fields) come from classical Greek, presumably into German as well as many other languages. And Greek has no "c" in its alphabet. The words are elektron (= amber, which much later was associated with physical properties that led to use of the word electron then electric), kardia (= heart), kephale (= head), gram or graph (various forms = writing). |
