awesome quiz. brings back memories
Mar 13th, 2010 at 23:18 GMT
Yup, that sure takes me back! Nice quiz!

Glad you had her die. The modern PC version has her crying.
Mar 15th, 2010 at 05:25 GMT
I'm English, and these are the exact words I was brought up with. I sang it once with a New Jersey friend, who knew the same words except "cry" instead of "die" (like cocky says). It seems amazing there isn't more variation in the words! Beautiful song, beautiful memories, great quiz, five sporcles!

"She wasn't so big, but she could swallow a PIG" Dang those techers who made up their own verses!
Mar 25th, 2010 at 00:11 GMT
I'm just stunned that dog and cat outrank fly... given the title and all.
Apr 3rd, 2010 at 04:37 GMT
Maybe change "Hint" to "Line"? It's not really a hint (and I like it that way).
Apr 10th, 2010 at 17:23 GMT
You could argue that you should accept 'hog' as well.

can't think of this quiz without thinking about legendary 80s TV kids show 'round the twist' - aussie TV at it's best.

One of my favorites in elementary school. She swallowed to spider to catch the fly, I don't know why she swallowed the fly ... I guess she'll die.

She got 100000% of her DV of protein in one day.

I sang this with my nephew years ago when he was about 3. We were having a great time until the last line with the horse and he just started bawling. The next day he asked me to sing it again but to stop at cow...lol.

2 minutes is too long... it's such a few answers, this should be a 1-minute challenge.
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 21:52 GMT
The book I read my 11 month old doesnt have the goat in it. Strange.
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 22:00 GMT
How is it that fly is only the third most guessed answer?
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 22:12 GMT
Blimey, Round The Twist... we had that in the UK in the 90s, loved it as a five year old. Totally forgotten about it.
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 22:13 GMT
she loves swallowing things
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 22:29 GMT
This is a morbid, morbid children's book. Only realized that now. Read the "Spider" line and try not to get shivers down your spine.
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 23:01 GMT
Man she can unhinge her jaw something fierce.
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 23:18 GMT
I agree with TJL. How does the one answer given to people in the title of the quiz end up the third most guessed and not the first?
Apr 23rd, 2010 at 23:58 GMT
I never learned goat either, but it only took a few tries to come up with a farm animal larger than a dog and smaller than a cow.
Apr 24th, 2010 at 01:14 GMT
Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't remember goat either, though it has been some twenty odd years sing I sang it. And we also got Round The Twist in the late '90s in America, for one summer only! Loved it.
Apr 24th, 2010 at 02:28 GMT
@ TJL and cappy: It took me a while to get "fly". Because it was in the title of the quiz, I just dismissed it, and only when I was struggling for the last few animals did the light dawn.
Apr 24th, 2010 at 02:30 GMT
Though I, personally, found dog and cat some of the least memorable animals. Perhaps a lot of people were just guessing common animals.

for gods sake GOAT? That is not in it...... maybe it's just an american thing
Apr 24th, 2010 at 09:19 GMT
and its fancy that to swallow a cat not imagine that
Apr 24th, 2010 at 10:42 GMT
@nini: I'm American and I've never heard goat mentioned in it...
Apr 24th, 2010 at 11:07 GMT
I'm American and I definitely remember the goat. However, I don't know the song as "Old WOMAN". It was always "Old LADY" when I was a kid (eons ago).
Apr 24th, 2010 at 12:37 GMT
Only got 2.Goat i thought was not in there.

2nd try I memorized them so I got all 8. Pretty awesome.
Apr 24th, 2010 at 16:09 GMT
Everyone knows that goats loves to eat dogs!
Apr 24th, 2010 at 16:37 GMT
The punchline of this song is fantastic. Good ol' children's death humor.
Apr 24th, 2010 at 19:35 GMT
My dad used to sing this to me every night before I went to sleep.
Apr 24th, 2010 at 20:05 GMT
So, in this world, goats eat dogs, cows eat goats, and horses eat cows.
Apr 24th, 2010 at 23:25 GMT
I definitely learned it with a goat. Apparently Canadian goats eat dogs.
Apr 25th, 2010 at 05:53 GMT
Apr 25th, 2010 at 07:01 GMT
darn, couldnt get goat
Apr 25th, 2010 at 22:15 GMT
Why is fly NOT the highest answer on the list!
Apr 26th, 2010 at 08:27 GMT
I think I remember this as mouse instead of bird? That might be why few people got mouse.
