You listed the Cincinnati Reds twice, while other teams were only listed once (unless they changed cities).

We don't hate them because they are the best AtoneMENT, we hate them because they buy their way in to being the best. They are the best because of their market, which is not what the deciding factor in a competitive sport should be.

Also, the Giants and the Braves shouldn't be split up like they are above. The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants are the same team (i.e. franchise) just relocated to a new city. Same goes for Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves.

Would have been a better quiz if you went year by year. BTW everyone "buys" their title, for example the Phillies made the world series because they bought Martinez and Lee in the middle of the season. Real baseball fans should be embarassed at the well fare system in the Major's, where the teams of LA, New York, and Chicago have to pay the salaries of their competition. In the old days if your fanbase didn't support your team you moved.

The Yankees have played and beaten every one of the 8 original National League teams (and also lost to most of them; a quiz on teams that have beaten the Yankees would make you very popular), so anyone who knows that has most of them, although the Mets are one of the earliest expansion teams, as are the Padres.

Should have a quiz called " Can you name the players developed by small market teams and bought for outrageous prices to win a World Series for the Yankees?"

What would you suggest they do with all of the money they generate? Donate it? They do that. Build a new stadium? They did that. Share it with the less fortunate teams in the league? Im sorry but that is ridiculous, although thats what half of you seem to be expecting. It's no new scenario, the Yankees are the most recognized sports franchise in America, should they just sit on top their money and twiddle their thumbs? Find a new argument.

They do share it, they give 100 million dollars annually to other teams in the league.

No one cares anymore that the Yankees buy their championships. All the big market teams do it now, or at least try to. Just look at the payrolls of the Mets, Tigers, Dodgers, Cubs, Angels, Red Sox, etc. Up here in Boston we're just ticked off now because the Red Sox still try to pretend they are a small market team who can't afford to match Yankees money. Which they usually can. No reason why they couldn't have dished out the extra cash to bring Teixeira up here.

betared: The Phillies didn't "buy" Lee, they traded for him. That is called good team management. The Yankees just open their wallets and outbid the next closest team by few million. How much of the Yankee team that played in WS this year did the Yankees either bring up from their farm system or trade someone or something (i.e., draft pick) of any value for. As for Pedro, nobody really wanted him that much. There's no doubt the better individuals won, but as for a "team", I'll stick with my Phils.

Now you have to 'buy' Lee, he's a free agent and needs a deal. Agreed Weizen, the Sox missed out on Teixeira and Arod over a few million, pennies really.

Rossipotamus: Lee isn't a free agent until 2011 - who knows if they'll agree to a long term deal in the next year. As for your earlier comment about the Yankees building a new stadium with their money - actually I believe that NYC taxpayers subsidized it with tax free bonds (pretty much jsut like every other team who gets a new stadium).

Calebann, 13 of the 26 players on the World Series roster came from the Yankees' minor league system. They traded for 7. They signed 6 as free agents. Also, signing premier free agents does necessitate giving up draft picks.

The bonds used for the stadium were 1/4 of what the final cost was, and taxpayers saw a 8 million dollar tax break for the cashed bonds. So yes, as with most stadiums, the municipality aspect of it was in part funded by taxpayers, but the stadium cost over 1 billion dollars, and the bonds used, as I said, were less that 1/4 of the total cost. You won't see the Pirates or the Royals building themselves billion dollar ballparks. Stop trying to pretend that the new stadium has nothing to do with the money generated by the franchise, and get over the fact that the Yankees spend their money they way they should.

How about a salary cap? Doesn't every other major American sport have a cap system? Nothing but greed keeping that from happening. I mean, the Yanks should spend the money they have, but that doesn't change the fact that they have way more money than most teams. And it's not even close. The next highest team payroll is app. $65 million less. Not exactly an even playing field is it Yankee fans? I don't blame them for spending what they have, but don't tell me that the 27 championships would be there without the financial advantage.
