| I don't think music in the 90s was better than music now. But *radio* (which is what this chart measures) was clearly better. This chart from the 90s does a pretty good job of identifying the songs that were big through the decade, at least based on my memory. If you look at the chart from this decade, you'll see that by mid-decade the "alternative" radio stations were just giving every song by about a half dozen bands #1, and ignoring almost everyone else. Basically, every song by Staind, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Green Day, RHCP gets to #1. Clearchannel has basically destroyed the airplay charts, I think. |
