| @zmoney - I've never in my life heard anyone use the term "African-American" to mean "descendants of American slaves only." I've only heard it used to describe, well, anyone who's black and American.
Why wouldn't Ethiopian-Americans be African-Americans? For that matter, why wouldn't Jamaican-Americans be African-Americans? They're just as likely as any other black Americans to have descended from the African slaves who were brought to the "new world."
I'm not saying no one's ever used the term the way you described it, but I think that's an extremely rare definition, and so I don't think anyone's going to find it confusing. |
