Are you sure about Florida being more prone to lightning than any other state? You should list your source.

@Basketm19: that should have absolutely nothing whatever to do with the time limit set for a quiz. If someone enjoys running through the states in a brute-force manner without any regard to the topic of the quiz who is harmed? That doesn't seem very fun or interesting to me, given that there are already quizzes where that's the point of the quiz, but The time limit should be set for those players who will think about the topic. Four minutes is a reasonable time in which to do that.

@abdobrusin: Florida was known as the lightning capital of the world (although that title might rightly belong to DRC or Rwanda). In any event: "Florida has the highest frequency of lightning in the United States. There, sea breezes from the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico converge and produce the rising air masses that host thunderstorms. Florida is also the state with the most lighting strikes. Other states along the Gulf of Mexico coast such as Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas have frequent lightning. Along the Atlantic coast, South Carolina and North Carolina have frequent lightning." -- http://geology.com/articles/lightning-map.shtml

It occurs to me that Sporcle could keep track of number of wrong guesses a player makes in a quiz and publish those statistics on the results page. A wrong answer could be defined as a player deleting an answer that was not accepted. For example, if a user typed New Hampshire for this quiz it would not be accepted and for the player to continue he would have to delete the existing answer. It should be possible to detect this transition from an input buffer containing more than zero characters to an input buffer containing zero characters. This statistic would identify the number of wrong answers. If a player answered every question without ever giving a wrong answer he would end up with a wrong answer score of zero. Players entering many wrong answers would end up with correspondingly larger wrong answer scores. This might go a long way toward re-balancing the importance of typing and thinking skills.
