Done! And before anyone asks, North Korea and Iraq were not a part of this year's HDI. Iraq would have placed in the Low list based on the 2000 data, while oddly enough, based on 1997 data (last time calculated) the DPR Korea would be in the High list! Wierd.

I find it a bit insulting that Israel is on the "high human development" list seeing as it's an apartheid state.

Hong Kong? I know "it's not a country" as every drooling idiot will post here if it were included, but it is considered separately for HDI and ranks high, and should at least be a bonus.

Ummm.....isn't Libya in Africa? Or is that not considered part of Africa for this quiz? If not, that should be noted in the description.

You know there's something messed up about these rankings if they place the US ahead of Canada and Japan while America incarcerates more people than any country in history (ever), has third-world levels of wealth inequality and has lower life expectancy and higher infant mortality than either of those countries. @sbme - Of course Libya is in Africa! You'll notice that it is an answer in the "Highest HDI outside of Europe" section (which includes Africa), rather than the "Lowest HDI outside of Africa" section, which does not.

@mogilny-This page talks about the new methodology, read it and then make an intelligent judgement about the HDI- http://aidwatchers.com/2010/12/what-the-new-hdi-tells-us-about-africa/

@newenglander: thank you. People the HDI is different from the 'Peace Index'. The issues CoolBeans and Mogilny brought up would destroy them on Peace but not HDI. @sbme: Libya falls under High non-European, as Mogilny said. The idea was that, since most high are in Europe, and low are in Africa, guess all those that aren't.

@newenglander - That page talks about the new methodology specifically as it relates to Africa, and doesn't really explain much other than that the new system is multiplicative rather than additive, and that while Africa comes off looking worse, it only comes off a bit worse.
