| This quiz includes all countries with a Muslim majority that legally allow homosexuality (same-sex sexual activity). This does not mean that these countries are gay-friendly, or that marriage or even same-sex unions are recognized. It simply means that the basic act of homosexuality is not illegal. All of these countries have a LONG way to go in terms of LGBT rights, and are far from havens of equality. But this first step (legalizing homosexuality) is crucial in the recognition that a country can have a practicing Muslim majority and still not outlaw a large segment of humanity like Saudi Arabia and northern Nigeria do. Hopefully these countries will, in the future, grant more basic rights to LGBT populations. I understand that the nature of this quiz might lead to some heated comments, but I feel that this is a very important issue and, if nothing else, makes for an informative quiz. Two bonus answers - one a country in which a portion of the population in one area still suffers legal persecution of LGBT citizens, and another that is not recognized by Sporcle and several countries. Thanks for playing, and feel free to comment! |
