| Name the countries whose HDI score is higher than those of any of the countries with whom they share a land border, excluding overseas territories. The latest HDI report (November 2011) excludes several countries, mostly island nations without land borders. However, it also excludes Monaco and San Marino, both of whom had a higher HDI than their sole neighbors (France and Italy respectively) in 1997 when last calculated. It also excludes North Korea, which is the only neighbor of South Korea and had a much lower HDI when last estimated in 1998. Monaco, San Marino and South Korea are thus included as bonus answers. The other excluded countries (Somalia, South Sudan and Kosovo) are widely known to be less developed than their neighbors. There is no HDI data for Vatican City, and it is thus excluded. I hope this clarifies any doubts or potential problems. I hope you enjoy the quiz! |
