"Minimum number of spaces each piece can..." what? Move to? A king in a corner can only move to three spaces. And of course since this is just a matter of guessing number after number, it's not really very interesting.

I'll admit that I made a mistake with the King, but Zeller - note it is the MINIMUM square, so a pawn is 1 and the queen 21 (in the corner). I'll also admit i rushed the quiz, sorry, but i have altered it now.

Actually wouldn't the minimum be smaller? You are saying the queen has to move at least 21 spaces.

Note to Swenny916: unless i am very mistaken, without any other pieces on the board (otherwise every piece could be 0 or maybe 1) all the answers, including the queen are correct.

Can't see how the queen can not move less than 21 spaces. Can you explain? The knight can land in two different spaces but must move four spaces to get there. I am not understanding.

Actually, the knight can land on eight different spaces but a minimum of one at a time. For any of the positions it must move four spaces.

captainjack's comments are far harder to understand than the quiz itself, and I agree that the answers are correct (for the scope of a piece on an unobstructed board). But you should accept single-character answers.

the minium of number of squares a piece can move is always 0, if it's when a piece can move is it always 1, e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 the queen caqn move to 1 square (e2,) if you say when the rest of the board is empty it is not a legal position as you need 2 kings on the board
