According to your source Uruguay is currently ranked #4.

For consistency I've chosen June for each year, as written in the quiz information.

Sadly, Kyrgyzstan is ALREADY eliminated for Brazil 2014 qualifying. :(

The exclusion of Uruguay is a very odd quirk. They were steadily ranked in the Top 10 (at #7 every month) since the 2010 World Cup until June, when they somehow fell to #18. In July they went right back into the Top 10 and now they're up to their highest ranking ever at #4.
So they were #7 in May 2011, fell to #18 in June, and then jumped back to #5 in July.

I tried Kyrgyzstan and Vatican City just for fun. Then I tried Scotland, but that was just being silly.

I can't believe Bulgaria and Romania have been in the top 10. I was quite surprised about there being no Greece especially considering they won Euro 2004, I also like many thought Uruguay would be there after a successful World Cup and winning the Copa America and also thought South Korea might have snuck in there when they finished 4th in the World Cup when they were joint hosts with Japan.

The problem with the FIFA ranking is that friendly matches and qualifying matches have the same weight as a World Cup final, and winning against San Marino has the same weight as winning against Spain. Probably the reason why a country like Norway ranked 11th until last August while not having participated in any tournament since 1998 if I'm not mistaken.

@zdarknes72 In Fifa, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland (as well as the Channel Islands I believe) are separate countries. NOw for the IOC, UK is an acceptable answer, there just isn't a true UK Soccer team.

@hilco: In the FIFA ranking, both match status and opposition strength are taken into account. Friendly matches and qualifying matches DO NOT have the same weight as a World Cup final, and winning against USA DOES NOT give the same score as winning against Germany. A World Cup final counts four times as much as a friendly match, and the opposition strength multiplier is calculated by subtracting the opponent's ranking position from 200, and dividing with 100. Your criticism is completely ungrounded.

I think the US should split up into state teams...makes about as much sense as England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland having seperate teams...

@lrsnb12 - same place as 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2010 - in the even numbered years quiz, linked on this one.

@theBCI since the first international football match was between England and Scotland under no form of logic known to human or any other intelligent lifeform in the universe does what you said make sense.

@Teejay79 - if you can't believe Bulgaria & Romania being in the top 10, you must be too young to remember Stoichkov & Hagi, two of the best players of their generation. Stoichkov's Bulgaria team at USA 94 was fantastic.

Put in Switzerland and Norway almost as a joke, was very surprised that anything came up. Also, the USA and Mexico are far overrated in these.
