Calcutta is out, Kolkata is in, as is the case for many Indian cities, including Chennai, which was formerly called Madras and thus would not have been on this list.

yeah, you should be going with local spellings, or at least specify that you're using the english spellings. Cologne should also be Koln.

how did I know there would be many Chinese and Indian cities I wouldn't know. Gotta get to work on that!

But Calcutta isn't even the English spelling any more. Officially it's Kolkata now. Just like Bombay = Mumbai, Madras = Chennai.

I removed Calcutta. My bad. I was aware that many Indian cities have "changed" their names recently but my data source wasn't updated and I didn't think about it at the time. Thanks for the heads up. I did decide to leave it in as a bonus answer though.

Canucklehead: I'm pretty sure Koln is the German spelling of Cologne so i don't think that needs to be changed.

dude these numbers are not even close to right. for example cincinnati currently has 2.21 million people in the metro, cleveland has over 2 million, etc. im not trying to be a douche, but literally every single one of these numbers are off, most of them way off

the numbers came from citymayors, which has been used on several quizzes on this site. keep in mind that sources often have different definitions of what they call metro areas. also, as the data was collected in 2006 so keep that in mind

I'm not sure about Ciudad Juarez being on here. It's often just called Juarez. And Ciudad means "City" in Spanish, so it seems a little strange to have it on here

Please don't use city mayors. Their populations are CLEARLY wrong. Cincinnati is typically considered the largest metro in Ohio. Look it up.
