Anyone know of any great books or DVDs about the really early years of the NFL? I was watching the NFL Films "Lost Treasures" series and there was a lot of interesting footage from the pre-merger era. It's tough to find good footage from that era since NFL Films (and television in general) was just getting started.

I am dumbfounded by the fact that Steve Beuerlein didn't do this in 1999 for the Panthers.

never thought i would see weinke's name on any list that was of high passing stats.

Weinke surprised me, not just because he was the one who did it, but also because I thought he'd mostly faded out by 2006, figured Delhomme would have been the guy to do it at that time.
Comment below threshold: show it | FastEddie: | Dec 3rd, 2011 at 07:57 GMT | -6 points |
Beuerlein did do it for the Panthers. Weinke was never close.

Hooray for Charley Johnson and his common last name!!!!! :)

@FastEddie: Beuerlein did throw for 431 yards as a member of the 1993 Phoenix Cardinals, but "only" got as high as 373 yards as a Panther. Weinke surprisingly did throw for 423 yards in his first of three starts as a Panther. It's amazing what a little fact-checking on pro-football-reference.com can do.

I know the Lions haven't had a great quarterback since Bobby Layne, but it took them until 1995? They've been in existence since 1934!

@Caedus, to me the shocker was that it was Scott Mithcell who did it for the Lions. He must have had a lot of protection that game because he was not known for being mobile, a lesson Brian Billick learned early on as head coach of the Ravens.

As a Lions fan, my favorite Mitchell quote came from a Baltimore reporter who said that he had "the decision-making of a Vinny Testaverde, the arm of a Trent Dilfer, and the mobility of a Tony Siragusa". That guy was freaking BRUTAL.

| @barnztormre,
That sounds like something Mike Preston would say. He's been known to be "brutally honest" during his years at The Baltimore Sun. |

Thank you for putting these is chronological order. Far too many quizzes put the most recent first. Sports did happen before 1980 (hint hint espn)

And somehow, Vinnie Testaverde makes it onto another quiz.

Youre telling me it wasnt the Rajun' Cajun' Colorblind QB Jake Delhomme who wasnt to toss for 400 for the Panthers???
