This is a really nice idea. It's amazing how easy a lot of these were. It was fun to go through and be like "yup, that one is definitely a beer country, and that one's totally wine..." etc.

Hey, thanks for the E.P. druhutch.
I didn't really think of it that way, but I do see what you mean--of course, then there's Spain...

Most were obvious but I was surprised by a few. Spain, for instance. I would've never thought.

I have to say that I find the subject of this quiz fascinating. I had this idea that Catholic Europe would favour wine, whereas Protestant Europe would favour beer. I guess that my presumption was far too simplistic.

For most of the beer-heavy ones (not just where beer won, but where the amount was also fairly high) I know of a number of their beers. They export any number of brands and some of them are quite famous. Oddly enough, Spain (and I really was surprised when wine came up wrong) is not one of them. I have never tasted a Spanish beer, and could not name a Spanish beer if my life depended on it.

Yes, a quiz with hard liquor as the third choice would paint a clearer picture of alcohol consumption in the cold north.

Spain definitely surprised me! Guess that's why there's so many good, cheap Spanish wines out there. Keep drinking the beers, Espana.

vegemighty - in the UK, San Miguel is quite a major brand, just another bland lager really but guess it reminds people of their holidays or something!

I was just going with the general trend of warmer countries = wine and cooler countries = beer. Then after I was confident with this trend, along came Spain, Hungary, and Sweden.

I really think you should make this quiz so you can only get 99% from getting all of the answers write otherwise people will get to used to 99% on this and not be ready for other quizzes

For people who've wondered about Russia: The source gives 'spirits' as well and lists it as 6.88 - well beyond wine and beer. Amazingly enough, there's one country in the list (of this quiz) that makes the Russians look downright ascetic. South Korea sports a 9.57 in 'spirits'.

Interesting quiz, but I wonder what the time-frame is for the per capita consumption. It's too much for a daily number but far too little for annual. Is it per week?

Is this measuring just the alcohol? If so 4 liters of alcohol per capita per year is actually about 100 liters of beer or about 30 liters of wine.
