i think griffey will go down as the greatest of the era not to have been linked to steroids.

Great Quiz, I can't wait for the rest of the decades. However I must agree with smreidy113, It's sad to see so many steroid users.

i dont think it matters, if they were all doing it then technically it was a legal playing field at the time. who cares if they used the juice

@Nuclear_Knuckles - he did not say that Griffey did not use steroids; he only said he's going to be remembered as the best in this era not linked to steroids. No one can know for sure if someone is clean, but it is a fact that Griffey has never (yet) been seriously linked to steroids.

Forever is a long time; I wonder why he assumes Griffey will not be linked to steroids. A-Rod had never been linked until 6 months ago.

@Athletic - it's not a level playing field in a historical context. It puts all of their career achievements (in comparison with players of other eras) in doubt and disrepute. Not to mention the silliness of the idea that they were ALL doing it...

You'd have an easier time picking out the guys that haven't been linked than the guys who have. Griffey, McGriff, Fielder, Carter...

Swellwrench, if you understand anything about baseball history, there are no level playing fields. The ball, the parks, the bats, the mounds, the weather, the strategies -- none of these have ever remained constant, and they all have affected the stats, sometimes to a tremendous degree.

"technically a legal playing field at the time" which is a bullsh*t argument because steroids have been a Schedule III drug (read: illegal) under the Controlled Substance Act since 1990.

I'm pretty sure federal law supersedes baseball policy.

swellwrench: was it a level playing field when Cy Young won 511 games, or when Bob Gibson posted a 1.12 ERA in 1968? There's no such thing as a "level playing field" from a historical perspective. Every era should be judged on its own merit.

not that im trying to defend what he did in this decade, but bonds was definitely clean(er) in the 90s.

If Griffey had gotten on the juice, then his HR numbers would be really astronomical. He has spent alot of time on the DL since he left Cincy, or he wouldve cracked the HR record before Bonds.

All of these people were an unquestioned part of my youth in the 1990s, except for Dean Palmer, who apparently hit a lot more home runs than I thought.

Ken Griffey, Jr. is the last great baseball hero. Jay Buhner wasn't a bad sidekick, either.
