| If I recall correctly, potassium dichromate will take primary alcohols all the way to acids; you need pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC) instead to reach the aldehyde. Also, I think reacting steam with an alkane should tend to yield the Markovnikov addition product, the secondary alcohol and not the primary alcohol. Finally, a lot of these don't accept nearly as many responses as they should (for example water for steam, ammonia for ammonia in ethanol...). |
