Accept as one word: Hurricanes, Diamondbacks.

I think Islanders should count. I wouldn't count Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Rangers, or Knicks since they're all (or at one time were) located in the city. Since the Islanders have never been located in New York City, I would argue that their name reflects the state.

the Diamondbacks and Hurricanes are on here but the creator didn't put to accept just the team names but that you have to put the city as well. This needs to be fixed

Accept Hurricanes, and yes, I agree with tmugford, the Islanders represent Long Island, not NYC, meaning the New York in their name is the state.

Definitely have to include the Islanders, and they do not represent the city of New York but the state. Also, Tampa Bay is a city, and while the teams play in the Tampa/St. Pete region, Tampa Bay is not a state, it is the city that these teams play in.

@asobrock: Tampa Bay is not a city. It's the body of water next to the city of Tampa, Florida.

@zmoney - well, ya learn something everyday. I had no idea that Tampa was the name of the city. I always thought it was Tampa Bay.

@halobigshot, even though the Jets and Giants are in New Jersey, the name New York Jets still represents New York, New York. The New York Islanders represent Long Island, New York, meaning it's named after the state.

I think all the New York teams should be on this list. They're not called the New York City Yankees.

When did Tampa Bay become a state and not a city? Why do you have to put Arizona for diamondback but not Cardinals? Don't make a quiz and then not read your comments for mistakes!!

@cricket: There's not many comments above yours, why didn't you bother reading them? Also, strangely enough, it may not accept Diamondbacks but, for me, it accepted "D Backs". But in the same vein, it wouldn't take "T Wolves".

New England is not a state. When did New England become a state and not a city? Don't make a quiz asking for sports teams named after states and then include something that is not a state!! Meow. That is all.

The title doesn't say anything about states. It just says "not a city".

@smheath: Check your sarcasm meter. Perhaps my humor is a bit too dry, but my hope is that Sporclers under the assumption Tampa Bay is a city realize their error before they so rudely berate the creator of a finely-crafted quiz (excepting the Diamondback/Hurricanes snafus)

I quit when the Tampa teams were included on an idiotic technicality. Obviously they're named for the city. They don't play in or represent the goddam water.

I repeat the comments to fix D-backs and Hurricanes. I typed in Hurricanes 3 times, once with 1 R, trying to figure out the spelling error, or perhaps guessing which other NHL team I had missed while the quiz maker forgot the Canes. Dude, decent quiz, but FIX THESE OBVIOUS ERRORS!!!

Sorry PWT3, but you're wrong. The teams are named Tampa Bay because they are supposed to represent both Tampa AND St. Petersburg. They are specifically NOT named Tampa, and are therefore NOT named after the city. They certainly should be included in this quiz.

Minnesota and Tampa Bay for all four. And why is everybody thinking it has to be a state's name. Not a city could mean a bay, a region, a state, a nickname of a state...

@typedino New York is the name of the city. New York City is not.

You might want to accept Diamondbacks, after all that is the team name.

It's something of a testament to the ingenuity of the average Sporcler that over half got the Diamondbacks, and over a third got the Hurricanes, despite the typos. 5 globes for the quiz, 1 globe for not fixing the errors after a day's worth of comments = 3 globes overall.

Oh, and honestly folks: if you think Tampa Bay is a city, perhaps Sporcle isn't the best place for you.

ive only made one quiz of my own before so im not sure how it works but i think what you did when you tried to make the quiz allow dbacks and canes was somehow not let it include just diamondbacks or hurricanes, i got diamondbacks by saying dbacks and hurricanes by saying carolina hurricanes

How can you not accept Diamondbacks and Hurricanes? It's not like those are the proper names or anything.

@PWT, there's nothing "technical" about the fact that the body of water is called "Tampa Bay" not the city. The Rays don't even play in Tampa.

I don't know what posessed me to do so, but after "hurricanes" was not accepted, I typed in "canes" and it worked. I was shocked and it just happened. From earlier comments I see that "d-backs" was accepted also. Great quiz idea with a few changes that need to be made... nothing more, nothing less.

When the quiz is focused on the locations, the locations should be accepted as answers. It currently doesn't accept "carolina" or "colorado" or "tampa bay", etc.

I have lived in Tampa almost all my life, and I missed all the Tampa Bay teams. Aside from the Rays, everyone that lives in Tampa assumes the Buc's and lightning are Tampa teams. But none the less it does say Tampa Bay, even though nobody thinks of clearwater when talking about the Buc's.

What a shock, the actual resident of Tampa is backing me up. The professional Googlers, meanwhile, are voting me (and the Tampa resident) down. We got a real bunch of anthropologists here.
