| Jason, let me explain. In English, West Germany was used during the cold war, to differentiate between East and West. But in Germany, the name of the country has always been "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" Or, Federal Republic of Germany (directly translated). "East" Germany was called the DDR. German Democratic Republic, directly translated. When the two countries reunited, what actually happened was that the DDR joined the BRD. The name of Germany has not changed. To imply that Germany and West Germany are different countries is therefore ignorant and uneducated at best, and fairly offensive. Your statement that "the countries used are the countries that were represented at the time" is false. Germany has never called itself "West Germany". |
