That was fun. Have you done one on State capitals yet?

Thanks. I actually have drafts for a state capital version and European country version. I'm just waiting to see if there are comments or suggestions. I originally thought 5 minutes was way too much time but maybe it's ok. Looks like only one person has gotten them all so far.

Love the Car 54 reference. Love these games. My only suggestion is to check the box that sort the answers alphabetically. I looked in vain for wASHington and sOUTh.

Excellent game! I played it several times until I was able to get them all. I liked that they were in a different order each time. This and the fact that not all the words in states were in the list made the strategy "Is this word in a state name?" rather than "List all the words in state names".

How about 'sot' for MinneSOTa, 'ska' for AlaSKA, 'pen' for PA, etc.? Fun quiz.

Thanks for the feedback. There are actually tons of scrabble-legal words not included here but I think the game would become tedious to use many more. As far as alphabetizing, I agree w/ the last part of Cheetah's comment above. (I changed it to alphabetical for a day and the ratings dropped.)

Enjoyed the quiz very much. :) I like the uniqueness of not having *every* three letter word listed. As mentioned by Cheetah0131, this and the different order do make it more of a challenge and cause you to think the opposite of how you normally would, having to look at each word and see if it sounds familiar as being in a state name, rather than making words from states. Although I think there is time enough to use that as a strategy too towards the end, especially with the longer state names.

Fun quiz. I missed "low" though, because it looks a lot like "Iow" as in the first three letters of "Iowa." Obviously, the fact that all answers are lower case should clarify that, but I didn't think of that while trying to answer as quickly as possible. Maybe consider replacing/removing that one?

This was a very fun game. But I was left with 8 I could not get...and still do not know what states they came from. I wonder if there is a way after the game is over to find this out?

@ktappe: You beat me to it! I was wondering that too. A lot of the ones I got, I guessed, and I don't know what states they were- and let's face it, I'm too lazy to go through each one and then go through each state and look for it. Is there any sort of key?

One of few state quizzes where singing "50 Nifty United States" in my head didn't help!

There are at least two other 3-letter words that can be found in the 50 state names. I haven't looked too hard, but did find 'bra' and 'sot'. Yes, bra is short for brassiere, but it's part of the common lexicon. And sot isn't exactly a common word, but it's not archaic.

In the middle of a college campus last year I overheard a crazy religious lady ranting about how Wisconsin was going to hell and everyone should have seen it coming because, as she put it, "Why do you think they call it WisconSIN?!"

Felt so proud of myself for having six left with no misses and 20 seconds left. So I just guessed at the rest, based on what just sounded right: miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss.
