The EU, however, is part of the G-20. There's already an Approved Sporcle Quiz that I think is identical to this one (check Geography). Although it makes not the slightest whiff of difference, the creator might want to double-check some of the lower-case letters beginning, for example, "united".

The quiz should state that not all of those countries are countries.

Oh right, "economies," not "countries." I was wondering what economically significant country there was alphabetically between C and F.

I went the other direction with the hint. Thought of less than national entities rather than supranational ones. And, no, I will not be telling you how many times I tried typing in "England"...

Counting EU France and Germany are counted twice. Then you have to consider NAFTA, SEA, Pacific Rim countries pacts

Nope, the EU as an entity is a member, so it should be here. NAFTA and all the other organizations are not. If one would just consider the largest economies and drop the EU, you'd actually have two more EU countries (Spain and the Netherlands) instead of smaller ones like Argentina and Turkey - which admittedly grow a lot faster.

Italy and the UK are in the EU as well, and Turkey has applied to join. However, the fact remains that the quiz asks for the membership of the G20 and one of the 20 members is the EU. The note to the quiz is quite clear that one of the answers is not an independent nation. I will admit I tried the UN first [facepalm].

For those of you complaining about the EU being included as an answer - the quiz creator cannot change the economies of the G20. He's just going with the facts, not making something up.

European Union should be included as an answer. So maybe have all countries in the EU be counted as alternative answers for it.

These global organisations exist mostly for photo opportunities and so world leaders and their hangers-on can have free holidays. Also South Africa is clearly only included as token African representation.

Sure, I entered Djibouti. Does that make me a bad guy or just a desperate idiot? I actually wondered why someone would use "economies" in the title, but attributed it to a non-native english speaker. So much for my lunacy. Good quiz

@NotThere The G20 is made objectively made up of the twenty largest economies on Earth. There are no "token" nations. South Africa is a member because it has the largest economy in Africa and one of the largest in the world (ever heard of the BRICS?).

Actually, the G20 is not exactly the twenty largest countries/economies. Other factors, including geography, matter, and some countries with GDPs larger than South Africa's are not in the G20 (e.g., Taiwan, Iran, Norway, Switzerland; the latter two are not EU members).
